Scooter Baseball

-Objective:

Heading 1

To score more runs than the other team.

-Fundamental Movement Skills:

  • Manipulative Send

    • Strike

    • Throw​

  • Manipulative Receive​

    • Catch​

-Equipment List:

  • One racquet

  • One oversized foam tennis balls

  • One scooter for each fielder

  • Four scooters for the batting team

-Setting Up:

  • On the baseball diamond, set up a defensive alignment consisting of a back catcher, players on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, a shortstop playing between 2nd and 3rd, and 5 outfielders.

  • The offensive team lines up behind the home plate area in the order they will be hitting.

    • 1 member of the offensive team will pitch for her team.

    • When it is her turn to hit, another player is selected by the team to pitch.

    • The batting order is maintained throughout the game.

-Instructions:

  • Explain that the same rules apply as for 3-pitch with the major exception that all players throw, bat, and move about while they are seated on scooters.

  • Teams provide their own pitcher who pitches a maximum of 3 pitches to each player.

  • Bunting is not allowed.

  • Runners cannot move till a ball is hit.

  • Safety Considerations

    • Be careful that players do not run over each other’s fingers with the scooters.

      • What makes it easiest to hit the ball where you wish?​

    • Which defensive tactics are most useful for the teams?
