Ready Set Select

-Objective:

To answer a math problem quicker than your opponent and have your opponent go for a run.

-Fundamental Movement Skills:

  • Locomotor

  • Run

  • A deck of cards

-Setting Up:

  • Each player is given one card.

  • Players line up on either side of the playing area.

  • Players partner up behind a start line on each end.

-Instructions:

  • Partners face each other and hold their cards face down in front of them.

  • One partner says, ready, the other responds with set, and the other responds with select. The players simultaneously flip the card face up.

  • Players switch cards.

  • The first player who adds up (or could do multiplication, or subtraction with a positive number, or subtraction with a negative number) stays. The other player runs to the opposite side of the playing area and challenges a new partner.

-Questions & Notes:

  • This game could also be played with three or more players (probably best to make face cards all worth ten—though keeping them as Jack = 11, Queen = 12, and King = 13 makes it very challenging).
