For a player to slide his

-Fundamental Movement Skills:

  • Manipulative Send

  • Throw

-Equipment List:

  • One stick or broken hockey stick without the blade.

-Setting Up:

  • Pack down a straight and smooth pathway within which a stick can slide.

  • Create a start line.

  • A player stands several paces behind this start line holding a stick.

-Instructions:

  • When the player is ready, and it is safe to throw, the player with the stick runs and throws the stick along the snow to determine how far the stick can travel.

  • Other players attempt to better each other's distance.

  • Questions for Understanding:

  • Do any characteristics on the stick affect the distance it travels? Why?

  • What throwing techniques make for a better throw? Why?
